October was a great Rally month!

November 2nd, 2009

We have been very fortunate to have had two very successful rallies in October. October 9-11 we held our President’s Rally with the installation of our officers for the upcoming year. This rally was held at the same time as the “Bus Nuts”, a wonderful group who we enjoyed eating with and touring their “conversion” RVs. Their creativity and originality was inspiring. We saw a bus from 1948 and several from the 50’s, as well as many other years.

Our rally included 20 units, with 4 units visiting. Carol and Rick Bell were with us for the installation, as well as several new members.

The Carolina’s State Rally was held the following week, October 14-18. We had over 50 units attend, and although the weather did not cooperate very much, we all had a great time.  The all ukelele band “Yesterukes” was a great hit, as well as our other entertainment. There was a ladies craft that was well - liked ( a beaded bookmark) and card bingo, hiking, flea market, live and silent auction and a big used book sale. The book sale raised over $50.00 for our community service project (this month the local Riverside EMS and Fire dept.) We had a break in the weather and were able to tour 5 vintage trailers, including one from the 1950’s. We had 7 different units represented, including St Louis and Pennsylvania.  Pictures will be posted soon.

We were happy to see Beth and Chuck back among us, bringing  two good friends that we enjoyed meeting. We also greeted Evelyn warmly, happy to see her in ever-improving health. We welcomed friends from the Western North Carolina Unit- Susan and Joe. Altogether, there were 11 units attending, and over 24 attendees.

Summer Fun Rally is over, Apple Picking Rally is next!

social-houraug09.JPGhugh-entertainingaug09.JPGhugh-and-georgeaug09.JPGedna-and-marthaaug09.JPGdinner-is-servedaug09.JPGour-rally-hostsaug09.JPGWe enjoyed a good rally in August, after a two month break for folks to travel to the International Rally in Wisconsin. Elections were held and positions were filled for the upcoming year. As usual, the food was delicious and we appreciate the hard work of the rally hosts, Martha and George Harris, Edna and Marion Elledge and Hugh Boggs. We were happy to see two of our Airstream Family that had not been able to attend lately, Evelyn and Lee. Evelyn came with her son and daughter-in-law and Lee brought her granddaughter. George and Martha reported on the International Rally, and we are glad that they were able to attend and represent Unit 22.  There will be pictures from the International posted at a later date.  We also enjoyed a Mary Kay demonstration with Asheigh, Dwight and Callie Rae’s granddaughter. Bernie celebrated his birthday with a guest, his son, Marc.

September is Apple Picking Time and we are planning a road trip to an Apple Orchard. Other scheduled events is a craft hour to work on table decorations for the State Rally. The complete schedule is posted separately.

Keep bringing and buying used books from our Book Sale. proceeds to benefit our community service projects. And remember, we want a big selection for the State Rally in October!!

Grandkids Rally was June 12-14

June 22nd, 2009

june-rally5.JPGjune-rally4.JPGjune-rally3.JPGjune-rally2.JPGjune-rally-1.JPGWe survived……. the Grandkid’s invasion at our last rally!

We all enjoyed a very fun, free June Rally. We had a good turnout, over 30 attendees and enjoyed meeting some new folks who were members at large or members of another unit.  The taco supper went over well on Friday, and the kids also enjoyed their private showing of SpongeBob and some of Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Saturday morning started with oatmeal and ice cream, a surprisingly good tasting combination. We also played some bean bag toss with the kids, decorated a frisbee and made several visits to the river to cool off.  There was the additional excitement of over 100 bikers starting a race from the campground, the three groups raced 100, 60 and 30 miles, all of them climbing to Caesar’s Head State park for their finish.  Saturday evening held a delicious covered dish meal and later, our usual business meeting. We ended the rally on Sunday with church services held by Lucy and Dick, with special music from Dwight and Beth.  We had 6 delightful grandkids attending at various times: Anna, Merrick, Drew, Sara, Rachel, and Hanna Grace.

We take July off so that folks can attend the International Rally held in Madison, Wisconsin. Our next rally will be August 14-16th.

May 1st-3rd was Spring Fling rally. Next Rally is Grandchildrens Rally June 12-14

May 27th, 2009

may-rally-pic5.jpgmay-rally-pic4.jpgmay-rally-pic3.jpgmay-rally-pic2.jpgmay-rally-pic1.jpgPalmetto State’s last  rally was held May 1-3 at Palmetto Cove RV Park. It was a buddy rally which allowed friends who have”other brands” to join the fun of the Airstreaming way of life.  We enjoyed some good food, and lots of good fellowship with other members. The weather was gray, but we brightened the days with good conversation among friends. We learned a new craft, hard to believe the hatband is made from soda pop tops! And we welcomed new members Larry and Cheryl, hope to see them at the next rally!

June 12-14 will be the Grandchildren’s Rally. We are anticipating a good crowd of grandkids this year and have special activities planned for them including frisbee golf, a craft, games, movies and snacks. Adults will have the usual good food and conversation with other members.

Friends

As you recall, at the last meeting of the IBT I was authorized to contract with one of three potential sites for the 2011 Rally/Convention.  I wish to inform you that the Land of Lincoln has won out.  We will all meet in DuQuoin, Illinois at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds in June 2011.  You will be pleased.

The weather was cooperative and we enjoyed a fun weekend together. We welcomed the company of Edmund and Isabel from Cape Cod who happened to be visiting the campground on their way to visit their  grandchildren near Charlotte. We had another grandchild visiting us during  his spring break and he was a big help on Saturday with breakfast preparation. Thanks, Drew! We also enjoyed an Easter Egg hunt and a craft project on Sat afternoon and Sarah’s Chicken Dijon dinner was a huge success. Other guests included a lovely family who joined us for dinner and had just bought their Airstream trailer and there was special music on Sunday morning brought to us by Fitz children.  Thanks to our hosts Sarah and Fred Brandt and Jeff and Madalyn Morehead.

RALLY COLORS: CORAL, BLACK and WHITE     THEME: BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE

MEMBER IDEAS to EVALUATE…

The following interesting question was asked by

one of our Unit Presidents in regards to the

upcoming Delegates Meeting. “Would it be possible

to vote on the ‘redefining of delegates’ amendment

first and if it passes, seat any delegates that might

now qualify under the new rules?”

After much discussion, debate and evaluation by

several individuals in the Club including

Parliamentarians, Constitution & Bylaws Chairman,

past Delegates Meeting Chairmen and Supervisors,

the answer according to Roberts Rule of Order is

that an amendment goes into effect immediately

upon its adoption, unless the motion specifies

another time to become effective. After which the

Delegates may approve the seating of newly

authorized and validated Delegates and Alternate

Delegates.

The following concerns need to be considered:

1. The normal order of business for our Delegates

Meeting is:

Call to Order

Roll Call

Approve last Delegates Meeting Minutes

Officer Reports with Election of Officers

New Business

Adjournment

2. Changing the normal order of business may

send a signal to the Membership and Delegates that

the New Business item is scheduled out of sequence

because it is going to pass, or fail, and could be

considered favoritism or opposition to the motion,

therefore should not be done. However, after the

normal order of business is set, and the meeting is

called to order, at the appropriate time, a Delegate

may request a vote on modifying the order of

business and if approved by a majority of the

Delegates the order of business would be modified.

3. Changing of the Delegates Order of Business

will set a new precedent for future requests that

could have Delegates debating and jockeying

various motions to be considered in a particular

order to try and enhance their adoption or failure.

This could develop into the Delegates spending

more time in adjusting and debating the order of

business for political reasons rather than debating

the actual motions.

4. Should any motion change a Delegate’s or

Alternate Delegate’s ability to vote during a

meeting, that meeting would need to be recessed to

permit Delegates and/or Alternate Delegates to be

removed or added along with the need to verify and

seat new ones. This would lengthen the time

Delegates would be in a Delegates Meeting.

5. During a meeting, should an early motion be

revisited and then overturned, which happened

recently, the debate and discussion on votes taken

could add more to the political debate of the

placement of motions on the agenda and more time

spent on the politics of the situation than on the

actual motion itself.

Remember our Club is run by its Unit Members

through their respective Unit Delegate. It is the

Delegates that decide where, what, and how this

Club proceeds. To intentionally enact a procedure

that has a significant potential to bog down our

current efficient Delegate process is not a wise

business decision and is not in the best interest for

our Club and its Members. Many Members like to

remind us we are a Caravan and camping Club with

goals of Fun, Fellowship, and Adventure.

Therefore, to retain an efficient Delegates’ Meeting

in the handling required items and motions in our

normal manner; as your International President, it is

my position that for the benefit of all Members,

Delegates and Alternate Delegates, no changes

should be made to the current established Delegates

Meeting Order of Business.
